Troubadour Heart

Michael Weston King with Michael Cosgrave
The songs of Townes van Zandt & Jackie Leven
Discovery Centre, Winchester
Friday 10th July 2015
8pm (Doors 7.30pm)
Michael Weston King first met Townes van Zandt in 1993 when opening for him on a tour of the UK & Ireland. He continued to do so for next three years whenever Townes came over, up to sharing the stage with him in what would be his last ever show – at The Borderline in London in December 1996. Along the way they become friends, duetted together on record and Townes cut a version of Michael’s song “Riding The Range.”
In 1994 Michael met Jackie Leven for the first time at a festival in Norway and thus began a friendship, an adventure, and many musical collaborations until Jackie’s untimely death in November 2011. Jackie produced Michael’s 2003 album “A Decent Man”and appeared on two others. He was part of Michael’s band The Decent Men and one third of their singer songwriter tours, “An Englishman, an Irishman and a Scotsman”.
This concert will showcase some of the finest songs by both artists played out over two sets, one dedicated to Jackie and one to Townes. Expect a good number of stories and reminiscing too. Michael will be joined by multi-instrumentalist and long-time Jackie Leven musician and co-producer, Michael Cosgrave.

Tickets: £12
